Trustees authorize execution of Teamsters and FOP collective bargaining agreements and confirm student and faculty board representatives

The Board of Trustees on July 14 authorized the chancellor to execute two collective bargaining agreements pending ratification by bargaining unit members: one with the services and maintenance Teamsters unit and a late‑added motion authorizing execution of a Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) agreement once ratified. Trustees were told one agreement had already been ratified by the bargaining unit and the other was expected to be ratified within a week.
The motions grant the chancellor authority to finalize agreements once the units provide notice of ratification and returned to the system office. The board approved both authorizations by roll call.
In a separate item, trustees confirmed new student and faculty representatives to the board: Michelle “Nish” Dionne (student representative, University of Southern Maine; graduate student in clinical mental health counseling) and Dr. Colleen Marzilli (faculty representative, nurse educator and executive director of ANA‑Maine). The confirmations were approved by roll call vote.
Why it matters: Collective bargaining approvals give the chancellor delegated authority to finalize ratified contracts consistent with board expectations. Confirming student and faculty representatives restores the board’s ex‑officio advisory seats and brings new perspectives to trustee deliberations.
