Bond 2023 progress: Hancock nearly finished; Findlay and Prop C projects continue over summer

WAXAHACHIE — District construction staff provided a status update on Bond 2023 and Proposition C projects, telling trustees progress is steady on multiple campuses with most work targeting completion before school starts.
Hancock Building and athletic work
Mr. Mott, the district construction manager, told trustees the Hancock Building is about 98 percent complete; punch‑list and hardware work remained. He said field house locker rooms and related football/track work are on a schedule targeting late October for completion and that a power line relocation and undergrounding had delayed some field work.
Findlay Junior High and interior work
Findlay Junior High is roughly 75 percent complete, Mott said. He described front panels, new aluminum exterior panels and interior finishes: library flooring installed, wall tiling, painting and stage renovation. Concrete flat work and exterior site work had been delayed by rain.
Proposition C and other campuses
Prop C projects have produced visible classroom and hallway work: new flooring, hallway renovations and restroom updates (tiling and epoxy floors) intended to reduce maintenance needs and improve longevity. Felty Elementary geothermal and chiller work is nearing completion and the district planned commissioning and startup with contractors in the coming days.
Readiness for school start
When asked about readiness, Mott said he is holding contractors to an August 1 target date for campuses to be ready for staff; several projects could finish earlier, but the district is keeping August 1 as its deadline. Most work is being performed by outside contractors; in‑house maintenance will address ongoing painting and minor items.
Ending: Trustees thanked staff for the update and asked staff to continue to report progress. Mott said he would return to the board with updates as punch‑list and commissioning progress continues.
