Mendocino County Assessment Appeals Board elects officers, readopts rules and approves calendar at annual organizational meeting

The Mendocino County Assessment Appeals Board held its annual organizational meeting on July 14, 2025, and elected its chair and vice chair, readopted the board's existing rules, approved the meeting calendar for the year and accepted minutes from April 28, 2025, with a correction, board members said.

The actions set leadership and procedural rules for the year ahead, a routine step that governs how assessment appeals will be administered and scheduled. Board members voted on each item without opposition.

At the start of the meeting the clerk conducted roll call. Member Selzer and Member Kramer were present; Member Shepherd was absent by prearrangement. The clerk confirmed that the hearing was properly noticed and that notice had been published in the Keita Daily Journal. The board moved directly to elect officers; nominations were offered and the motion to elect the proposed chair and vice chair carried unanimously.

Atlas Pearson, senior deputy clerk of the board, presented the proposed rules and calendar. "These rules are the same that you have adopted for the last 2 years. The BOE didn't release any new ones. So we are just readopting what we've done for the past couple of years," Pearson said. Members adopted the rules and the year's meeting schedule following that presentation.

There were no public comments in the meeting room or online during the public-comment checks, and the board confirmed there were no hearings scheduled for the session. On other business a member raised a request to correct the spelling of a member's name in the draft minutes; a motion to accept the minutes of April 28, 2025, with that correction carried unanimously.

The clerk said staff would email each board member a copy of the approved calendar after the meeting. All motions on the agenda were approved without recorded opposition.
