Hardee County development group highlights new Debut facility, downtown retrofit and international marketing push

The presentation said the new Debut building is moving quickly: vertical construction and exterior sheeting are in place, the roof and insulation are installed, and interior build-out permitting will begin soon. The development group expects Debut to vacate its current site in time for a pending Culver’s closing in November, and staff said the project could be completed by the end of 2025 if timelines hold.
The group also described ongoing work at 122 West Main (the former Ripe Hardware building) in downtown Wauchula. The project is a partnership with Main Street Wauchula and uses state grant funds the Main Street board procured; the development group has submitted a successful 50% draw for the project. The presentation said exterior and interior design and engineering work are supported by that grant, and the project is being kept consistent with historic-preservation review by the county’s historic architect and the Lunds Group.
Presenters said the development group has layered marketing beyond local and state outreach and is now producing materials for an international audience. The group reported new website language options and collateral aimed at business recruitment overseas; staff said the delegation that attended the Paris Air Show met with state partners to raise the county’s profile. The presentation also highlighted workforce partnerships with South Florida State College to address perceived international doubts about the local talent pipeline.
County commissioners asked clarifying questions and offered support. No final decisions or funding votes were recorded during the presentation.
The commission meeting package indicated continued updates will be provided at future meetings and that the development group will present additional details as projects progress.
