Stafford Fire Chief Larry DeCamillo announces retirement effective Aug. 31

Fire Chief Larry DeCamillo announced to the Stafford City Council on July 2 that he will retire effective Aug. 31 after 35 years with the Stafford Fire Department, including roughly two decades serving as fire chief.
DeCamillo told the council he had discussed his decision with the mayor and said he is confident the department will continue to function under existing leadership, citing Assistant Chief Magana and Fire Marshal John Lopez. He thanked council members and staff and characterized his departure as the conclusion of a long tenure.
Council members acknowledged DeCamillo's service. The announcement was informational; no formal action on succession, appointment or interim leadership was recorded in the July 2 meeting minutes. DeCamillo and council members said the department has a strong team prepared to lead after his retirement.
DeCamillo's retirement will take effect Aug. 31; the council and staff indicated they will continue internal processes to ensure leadership continuity.
