Engineering consultant briefs commissioners on Austin community center, road maintenance and other local projects

AM Engineering updated the Lander County Board on multiple Austin-area projects including the Austin Community Center and Health Clinic, preventive street treatments in several communities, courthouse entry improvements and plans for a relocated pickleball court.
Representatives from AM Engineering briefed the commissioners on active and upcoming projects in Austin, Kingston, Gilman and the Reese River Valley during the July 10 meeting.
AM Engineering said the Austin Community Center and Health Clinic project is under contract with a cited construction investment (presented in the meeting as $5,200,000) and will include community amenities such as a commercial kitchen and space intended for public and health uses. The presenter said construction activity would create short-term local economic impacts and that paving of the parking lot is expected later in the project schedule (paving likely next year), while site work and building construction begin earlier in the schedule.
On road work, the firm described a preventive maintenance program to include crack sealing and a micro-paving (slurry/microsurfacing) application for sections of Austin, Kingston, Gilman and the Reese River Valley. The consultant reported the project came in under estimated budget, allowing more roadway treatment than originally planned. The firm said crack sealing crews would lead and micropaving would follow; the work is expected to be completed quickly so traffic disruptions are limited.
Other items addressed in the update included: replacement or relocation of a bandstand to accommodate an elevated pickleball court between the ball field and tennis courts; front-entry improvements at the Austin courthouse to address ADA access; coordination on sidewalks connecting to the new community center; and status on the Austin realignment project (survey and mapping work complete for parts of the project; attorneys are addressing outstanding legal items related to map recordation and property interests).
Representatives asked commissioners to direct any questions through county staff and noted project contacts are available for immediate site issues as construction mobilizes. The board asked staff to coordinate temporary parking/RV accommodations and to continue public notices about traffic impacts during construction.
No board action was taken; the presentation was provided for information and project coordination.
