The Sawyer County Treasurer’s Office reported a decline in tax-delinquent parcels and outlined next steps for the county tax sale.
County staff said the cycle began with 37 delinquent parcels and that number was down to 11 at the time of the update; staff estimated a final tally “around 5.” The office reported six parcels already sold and said a second round of bids would begin on Monday. Staff identified Aug. 11 as the judgment date when the county would take possession of properties that remain unpaid.
The treasurer’s report noted that the county has been pressing delinquent taxpayers to pay and that delinquent-parcel counts decreased substantially in June, a change staff described as “close to 900” (as reported by staff). The speaker also said earlier reminder cards for real estate tag collections appear to be effective: the county is “ahead of the total receipts” compared with the same time last year and reported roughly $200,000 more collected year to date than in the prior year.
County staff flagged one ongoing complicating factor: several parcels in the broader region are affected by contamination, which can slow sales or require additional process. The presenter said the topic came up at a recent WTCA convention and that the county likely has one or two contaminated parcels under its review.
The update was presented as an interim report; no new policy or change to the tax-sale process was adopted during the discussion.
