City leaders used the March 17 council meeting to honor volunteers, top fundraisers and teams from the recent AIDS Walk, telling the council the event raised more than $2.6 million.
Mayor Richard Reardon and Lisa Walters presided over the presentation. Reardon said the walk was the largest in the event's history and that more than $2,600,000 was raised to support AIDS services. He specifically noted AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) as a recipient and praised organizations and volunteers for food distribution and prevention education work.
Lisa Walters announced individual awards and team fundraising totals: Cynthia Park was named top fundraising walker, raising nearly $58,000 and setting a new AIDS Walk record; DreamWorks SKG was the top fundraising team with $91,386; the Disney volunteers raised $53,885; the city of Los Angeles employees'team raised $43,663; the county employees'team raised $48,924; Team Warner (a coalition of Warner entities) raised $41,874; Salon Paul Florent raised nearly $7,000; and the friends-and-family team "In Memory of Clay Howell" raised over $32,000. Walters also named a roster of outstanding volunteers by name.
