Harris handed copies of the petition to county staff during the meeting and said residents value the road and want minimal maintenance, not paving. Several speakers described the road as historic and used by local residents.
Commissioners and staff confirmed the road‑closure process would require a formal petition and a vote by the board, and that the decision would be reflected on a future agenda for public consideration. Carlin (public works) told the board two landowners are preparing a petition seeking closure but were not yet ready to move forward. Board members explained that a closure decision would be made by the board and that different future boards could revisit closures if elected members change.
Why this matters: closing or changing the status of a county road affects access, maintenance responsibilities and property owner interests. Residents told the board they prefer the current dirt configuration and opposed converting the route to a paved bypass or permanently closing the dirt section.
