Trustees approve Darlene Delgado as school associate superintendent, 4-2, after questions about past school departure

The Clark County School District Board of Trustees approved an employment agreement on July 10 to hire Darlene Delgado as a school associate superintendent. The motion passed 4-2 after several trustees and members of the public raised concerns about Delgado’s mid‑year retirement from a prior position at Rancho High School.

Superintendent Ebert presented Delgado’s qualifications, saying she previously served as director of educational and organizational programs at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, worked as a comprehensive high school principal, and “has led student achievement up to 94% within the graduating classes” she oversaw. Ebert recommended the hire and described Delgado’s experience with budgets, community engagement and advanced coursework.

Trustee Biasotti publicly questioned Delgado’s record and said she attempted to discuss past incidents at Rancho High School with Delgado but was “turned away” and that Delgado retired mid‑year. A member of the public, Lenny Lither, also raised concerns about Delgado’s retirement timing and asked whether the district staff had investigated those events prior to bringing the candidate forward.

Board counsel cautioned trustees to confine their remarks to what is on the agenda and warned against airing personal judgments or information that could raise open‑meeting concerns. Trustee Cavazos moved to accept the employment agreement; Trustee Esparza seconded. The motion passed 4-2.

The superintendent told the board the district had promoted internal candidates to other region roles and that materials for internal promotions are not presented to the board, which sees and votes on externally recruited candidates. The board did not identify specific contract terms in the public motion; Human Resources will finalize and execute the agreement.
