Board authorizes $42,000 sewer-line replacement at Burwick Junior High, will cross city property

The St. Mary Parish School Board on July 10 authorized replacing approximately 600 feet of four-inch main sewer line at Burwick Junior High at an estimated cost of $42,000.
Mister Wise, the district's director of maintenance who is retiring, told the board the line had been problematic since the end of the school year and that replacement is necessary. Wise said he had discussed the proposed route with the mayor of the city of Berwick and that the mayor "has given us permission to proceed, and to work through his attorney, Mister Robert Duffy, to put together a governmental agreement for us to cross that city's property." He said the project will be presented as a governmental agreement at a future meeting.
When asked where funds would come from, Wise said the money would be taken from District 2 maintenance funds. Miss LaSalle made the motion to approve and Miss Anselm seconded. The board approved the motion by voice vote: "All those in favor, say aye... Any opposed? Motion carries." Wise said the project team would bring the governmental-agreement paperwork to the next board meeting and proceed with work as soon as practical.
Wise was recognized at the meeting; board members thanked him for nearly 25 years of service as he retires the following day.
