VDOT reports local resurfacing, turn-lane work and near-term overlays in Henry County

Jeff McCambridge, maintenance operations manager for Henry and Patrick counties with the Virginia Department of Transportation, told the Henry County Board of Supervisors on June 24 that routine road maintenance is underway and that several safety and paving projects are in progress.
McCambridge said crews completed the first round of maintenance and are approximately two weeks from finishing that pass; they will begin a second round thereafter. Recent work included a right-turn lane on Route 87 connecting to U.S. 220 to increase queue capacity for vehicles turning toward Martinsville. A second safety project to add a right-turn lane on Magna Vista Road began recently and was expected to be completed around early next week to be ready for the school year.
McCambridge reported that surface treatments and slurry seal for the county are complete. Two roads still require a plant-mix overlay; the contractor is currently out of state and expected back in about four weeks. Wheeler Avenue is scheduled for overlay when contractor returns, then work will proceed to the Accident area; when finished, Henry County’s scheduled 2025 work will be complete.
A board member asked about the process for residents requesting a road become state-maintained (Quail Lake Road); McCambridge said VDOT staff will follow up with county staff and provide results to the supervisor.
