Randy Davis and volunteers updated the Beaver City Council on plans for the 2025 9/11 Day of Service, asking for council support, a city liaison and help coordinating logistics.
Davis described an event timeline similar to previous years with ceremonies moved to the football field to use the city’s speaker system. "One thing that's changed is we're gonna have the ceremonies out on the football field rather than out front by the road just because we have a speaker system now," Davis said.
Planned components include flag placement by neighborhood volunteers, a student-body-president reading at the high-school opening, a moment of silence, a song and a community dinner in the evening with a light meal starting about 7 p.m. Davis said the organizers secured a recurring blood drive for Sept. 11 that will run for the next several years.
Davis asked the council to name a council member to act as a city point person for the committee and said the county commissioners have been asked to donate $250 to the effort (he reported the amount had been requested but not yet finalized). “So then you guys could use that for the dinner or whatever? That's what you said,” he said.
Organizers said they will hold a planning meeting on Tuesday, July 29 at 7 p.m. at the city office and requested that the council identify a contact to streamline communications and event approvals.
Ending: The council did not formally approve funding at the July 8 meeting; staff were asked to coordinate scheduling and a city liaison was requested to assist the volunteer committee as plans firm up.
