The recreation director reported heavy pool use this summer, ongoing staff turnover in grounds and maintenance positions and maintenance work on pool plaster and pumps, and passed on a contractor’s proposal to raise the press box.
The director said pool attendance averages about 200–225 on weekdays and about 300–325 on weekends. Staff reported that donations and donated passes have reduced the need to charge children for pool entry and that pool parties are heavily booked on most summer weekends. The automatic chlorination and acid system was described as reducing manual work compared with prior systems; staff said they routinely test equipment to ensure proper operation.
On staffing, staff announced several near‑term vacancies: Zeth, a grounds maintenance worker, is leaving in August and the park maintenance worker Mark is expected to leave around Aug. 15. The director said only one candidate had applied to replace Zeth as of the meeting and that staffing availability could become a challenge once school resumes.
On facilities, the director reported plaster peeling in the beach area of the pool and said they had scheduled Ascend to make repairs that evening. Staff also discussed a proposal from Brad Braun to raise the press box off the ground (the design as discussed would raise the box about 10 feet off grade on four columns, include a ladder and steel framing). The director said the press box floods at the bottom during heavy rain and recommended sending the proposal to members for review.
The director also outlined program and league operations: registration is open for rec leagues, men’s softball is forming multiple teams, cheer camp for high school participants is scheduled in July and staff are evaluating fall tournament dates and formats. No formal actions were taken on staffing or press‑box work during the recorded portion of the meeting; staff will forward the press‑box design and pricing for member review.
