Emergency management intern summarizes June trainings, conference participation and multiyear plan

Megan Randall, a summer intern with Eaton County Emergency Management, told commissioners the office focused in June on training, exercises and federal grant-supported conference participation.
Randall said the county covered the cost of 19 participants to attend a North American active-assailant conference; she said the total project cost was $5,750 and that the expense was covered by the Homeland Security Grant Program. The participants included law enforcement, firefighters and 9-1-1 telecommunicators.
In coordination with the city of Eaton Rapids, the emergency-management office conducted a tabletop exercise on June 10 to prepare for Fourth of July activities and also held an exercise in the emergency operations center focused on its critical incident-management system. Randall said the 2024—25 multiyear strategic plan has been finalized and outlines goals for closing preparedness gaps through training and community engagement.
Randall noted that Ella Gardner earned Certified Emergency Manager credentials through the International Association of Emergency Managers and that Ryan Wilkerson, vice president of IAEM Region 5, represented the region during a legislative day in Washington, D.C.; Randall said Wilkerson met with members of Congress and with U.S. Sen. Gary Peters while there.
Randall closed by thanking the board for internship opportunities and said she welcomes questions.
