Fielding fire/EMS reports donation of surplus apparatus, new pump capacity and equipment needs

Fielding’s fire and emergency medical services reported receipt of a donated apparatus from the Cache County Fire District and described several equipment and maintenance matters during the meeting.

A speaker identified in the meeting as the fire chief said the vehicle was donated after coordination with the county fire marshal and the donor district. The chief described having to install batteries, replace a few tires and repair front-end leaks; he said the apparatus fires and runs, and estimated pump and tank capacity while noting he would confirm exact specifications. He also said the donated apparatus had roughly 24,000 miles on it and that the pump is similar or slightly larger than the department’s existing unit.

The chief told the council the department must replace a length of hose that was degraded by sunlight exposure and the department is pricing hoses; he said a high-flow 5-inch hose can be expensive. He also reported that a retention/bonus grant for EMTs is recorded separately and cannot be used for non-EMT personnel or non-medical expenses.

The town’s fire leadership asked the council to allow time to service the donated vehicle and to budget for required items; they said the department hopes to have the apparatus ready and in front-line service in mid-July. No formal council action was taken on the donation during the meeting.
