FOLSOM, Calif. — The Folsom City Council voted unanimously July 8 to deny a resolution that would have deferred hiring 10 firefighter/paramedics, allowing eight newly recruited firefighters (from a recent academy class) to be hired as planned while city leaders said further budget actions will be required.
City Manager Adam Whitemeyer told the council the adopted fiscal 2025–26 budget shows a projected $3 million operational deficit and warned that, without changes, deficits will grow in subsequent years. He recommended delaying the hires because conditional offers were already in the pipeline and the city must weigh that against long-term fiscal sustainability.
