The facility would have capacity for 63 children, operate weekdays roughly 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. (no weekends), employ about 14 staff and provide an outdoor fenced play area. Drop‑off and pick‑up would occur inside the building, and the applicant has designated 21 parking spaces for child‑care users; staff said that number does not create a parking deficiency for the site’s other uses.
Trustees expressed broad support. Several trustees called on the Planning Commission to review details such as tree protection and sustainability measures during the site‑plan review. One trustee noted staff outreach to a nearby child‑care operator, which reported local shortage of child‑care capacity and said it was not opposed to Crate & Barrel’s proposal.
No final zoning relief was granted at the meeting; trustees referred the application to the Planning Commission and asked staff and the commission to examine operational limits, tree protection, parking and any sustainability recommendations as part of the normal review process.
