The Derby Board of Education reviewed proposed revisions July 7 to two job descriptions and related evaluation tools; the changes were presented for discussion and will be brought back for action at the next regular meeting.
Becky Mader, assistant superintendent of human resources, outlined two proposed changes: update the director of teaching and learning job description to show joint reporting to the superintendent and the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning (to allow joint evaluation), and remove McKinney-Vento responsibilities from the director of special services job description because McKinney-Vento responsibilities had been moved to the director of alternative learning.
Mader said the changes are housekeeping to align supervisory relationships and to correct where McKinney-Vento duties appear in district job descriptions. The administration also proposed a new evaluation instrument for the newly defined director of teaching and learning and updates to existing evaluation tools (including a title change for the assistant superintendent previously listed as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction).
Mader and district staff said these items are for discussion July 7 and will return to the board for a formal vote at the next regular meeting.
No formal action was taken July 7; the board asked clarifying questions and the administration said it will present the final job descriptions and evaluation instruments for approval at the next meeting.
