Hillsboro School Board elects Yvette Pantoha chair, Sheehan vice chair and approves consent agenda

The Hillsboro School District 1J Board of Directors elected Director Yvette Pantoha as board chair and Director Sheehan as vice chair and approved the consent agenda during a work session, the board announced.

Director Katie Ryan moved to elect Sheehan as vice chair; Director Mark Watson seconded the motion. After a roll call, the motion carried. Director Ryan then moved to elect Yvette Pantoha as chair; Director Watson seconded that motion and the board approved it by roll call. Later in the meeting Director Mark Watson moved, and Director Patrick McGuire seconded, approval of the consent agenda "as printed;" that motion carried.

The board conducted the votes by motion and roll call. Board members recorded voting "aye" during the roll calls included Jean Kim; Jessica Hart Mercado; Patrick McGuire; Katie Ryan; Mark Watson; Yvette Pantoha; and Sheehan. The chair and vice chair elections and the consent agenda motion were recorded as approved.

Director Watson offered brief praise after the vice-chair nomination, saying he "think[s] Sheehan would make a great, vice chair, and I appreciate her willingness to step up into a board leadership position and look forward to her serving in that role." Sheehan thanked colleagues for the nomination and for past service by outgoing leaders, saying she appreciated the nomination and "look[ed] forward to serving the board in this capacity."

The consent agenda vote closed the formal portion of the work session and moved the meeting into discussion time, where board members and staff introduced new personnel and shared district updates.

The board adjourned the work session at 12:16 p.m.
