Kootenai County to issue tax deeds on 11 unpaid 2021 parcels; auction tentatively set for Sept. 9, 2025

At a Kootenai County Board of Commissioners meeting, Kelly Weese of the treasurer’s office asked the board to approve issuing tax deeds for remaining parcels with unpaid 2021 property taxes and said the county’s auction is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9, 2025.
Weese told commissioners the county’s penny-issue tax-deed process began with 321 parcels. Notices were sent and, by the time of the presentation, certified mailings had been sent on 64 parcels, 49 parcels had been published in the Coeur d’Alene Press, and 26 parcels were listed in the meeting packet. Since the packet was prepared, 15 parcels paid their 2021 taxes, leaving 11 parcels for tax deed, Weese said.
Weese said the affidavit of publication was recorded June 2, 2025, and the affidavit of compliance was recorded June 26, 2025. She told the board the tentative auction date is Sept. 9, 2025, and requested permission to issue and record Kootenai County tax deeds in fulfillment of the legal requirements noted in the presentation.
Commissioners approved a motion to accept the 2025 tax-deed list as presented at the meeting; the motion passed with all commissioners present voting in favor. The AINs listed during the motion were read into the record by the motion maker as part of the motion.
Why it matters: issuing tax deeds transfers title for unpaid-tax parcels and can affect property owners, neighbors and future county revenue. The treasurer’s office said additional payments cleared some parcels after the packet was published, and the final deed list was presented to the board for approval at the meeting.
Next steps: The county will record the deeds and proceed toward the September auction for parcels that remain unpaid. The treasurer indicated the list provided at the meeting would be used to complete the record.
