Board hears water-tank problems, fire-engine repair status and CIB loan update

Staff reported the airport’s above-ground water tank has heavy interior corrosion. A Y-strainer and an additional "witch's-hat" secondary strainer have been purchased to reduce debris entering drafting lines; staff recommended increasing mesh size if debris persists. Board members and staff discussed installing an inline electric pump as a longer-term improvement so fire crews could draft water by switching on a pump rather than priming with a portable engine.
Staff said the tank should be re-leveled so sediment collects at the downstream end, and that the strainer installation is pending site work and crew availability. Personnel with primary responsibility for the tank were temporarily unavailable due to a family emergency, the board noted.
On fire apparatus, the board heard that the county secured a CIB loan (reported by county staff in the meeting) to purchase a fire engine, and that the airport’s existing fire engine is currently under repair. A mechanic installed a new water pump and staff anticipated no-foam testing and return to service later in the week. Board members asked staff to prepare a note of thanks to a neighboring jurisdiction that provided a loaner fire engine during repairs.
No formal action was taken; the board requested follow-up on strainer installation, pump options and a draft thank-you to the lending jurisdiction for assistance during the repair.
