BCDC trails committee nears final draft for county trails plan, seeks county and city coordination

The Broadwater County Trails Committee and BCDC reported progress on a countywide trails plan on July 8 and said a near-final draft is ready for review by county and city officials.
Committee members outlined proposals to designate river paddling routes (extending the Missouri River Paddlers Trail downriver to the Toston Bridge area and a takeout near the Indian Road day-use area) and to identify land and road connections to trail systems in neighboring counties. "What we came up with was we ought to identify those routes that connect Broadwater County to Meagher County, to Gallatin County, to Jefferson County, to Lewis And Clark County," a committee member said.
The committee said Fish, Wildlife & Parks and other partners are supportive of extending paddler route designations; the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) was asked to confirm agreement for a proposed takeout location. The committee also noted outstanding work to tie trails to emergency evacuation centers and said it now has a new contact to help compile evacuation-center locations.
Why it matters: A coordinated trails plan can improve recreation access, local tourism, and inter-county connectivity and support future funding applications.
What’s next: Committee members said they will finalize the draft, present it to the city and county for feedback and consider adoption or informal use by partner agencies. The draft includes route maps and cost-estimate options for different trail-surface materials.
