Kootenai County schedules Justice Building grand opening; department move set for July 14

Kootenai County officials said the new Justice Building is essentially complete and will hold a grand opening Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m., and that departments will begin moving to the facility on Monday, July 14.

Jeff Fuller, the county’s director of building and grounds, told the Board of County Commissioners that crews are finishing punch-list items and that De Vries Moving Company will transport departmental belongings. "We are working on final final final punch list items right now, so we're very, very close to being ... 100% complete with the building," Fuller said. He added that boxes and large plastic storage crates are being delivered to departments for packing.

Fuller said the contractor Boughton and the architect team remain on site to wrap up final details; the architect’s marketing team is also photographing the facility for its portfolio. Fuller suggested removing the project as a standing item from the commissioners’ business agenda unless periodic updates are requested.

Commissioners asked for a follow-up operational update after the move; one commissioner proposed a check-in on the first Tuesday in August to review how operations are functioning in the new space. Fuller said staff will bring items back to the agenda if substantive issues arise.

No formal board action or vote was recorded on the building update during the meeting. The county did not discuss additional costs or contract changes in the public portion of the record.
