The Bennett County Board of Commissioners on July 8 approved a not-to-exceed $35,000 furniture purchase for the county's new event center and authorized staff to proceed with ordering items required for initial occupancy and move-in preparations.
Shanda Crystal, chief procurement officer, presented the estimate and asked the board for a "do not exceed" amount to finalize the order deadline. "All of this furniture order would be under warranty and returnable," Shanda said, noting the vendor would accept returns or exchanges if items did not fit the spaces as expected.
Shanda told commissioners she needed the order placed by the following Monday to meet delivery schedules and that some requested adjustments were still pending review between the procurement office and building staff. She recommended allocating Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT)/ARPA overage funds; staff said the county currently had $200,000 available in that line.
A commissioner moved to approve up to $35,000 for furnishings for the event center (the request included 10 conference chairs described as durable "big and tall" models). The motion passed by voice vote. Commissioners noted the purchase could be returned or reallocated to other county projects if specific pieces did not suit the space.
Staff will continue working with building staff (Scott and others) to finalize exact quantities and placement and will move forward with ordering to meet the move-in timeline.
