TWC rehears wage-claim appeal, rules on multiple unemployment insurance appeals

The Texas Workforce Commission on Tuesday agreed to rehear a wage-claim appeal and issued a series of rulings and procedural directions across two dockets of unemployment insurance and wage-claim cases.

The commission voted to remand and rehear case number 23-063241-3 — the only wage-claim matter pulled for additional discussion on docket 27 — after commissioners said the employers late appeal to a preliminary wage-determination order had not been tested at hearing and documentary evidence suggested the employer may have attempted to pay wages twice. Commissioners then moved and passed a motion to accept staff recommendations on the remaining wage-claim cases on both dockets 27 and 28, with several commissioners noting exceptions recorded on the short-form dissent lists for each docket.
