Jenny Torres, program specialist, told commissioners the 30th Pride of the Valley run on Aug. 2 at Morgan Park will add a 10K option (two loops of the established course) in recognition of the anniversary and that organizers are offering medals to all finishers.
Torres said the event secured an on-course sponsor and that every registered runner will receive a voucher to redeem at a fast-food chain (her presentation included an on-the-record correction about the sponsor and voucher brand during the meeting). She described a multi-pronged outreach effort—postcards at running stores, billboards on the I‑10 and 605 freeways, email blasts and direct outreach to running clubs—and several registration challenges for high schools and clubs that earn shirt logos or perpetual trophies.
Torres said about 352 runners had registered as of July 7 this year, compared with 192 registered at the same point in 2024. She also reported that organizers expected sizable local participation: “Out of the 867 run 897 runners that, registered last year, 260 of them were from Baldwin Park,” Torres said during the presentation.
The race includes a free half‑mile Kids Trot for young children, a free training Run Club that meets Tuesdays and Saturdays, and discounted or free registration opportunities for youth and senior fitness groups. Fees listed by staff were $25 for the 5K with a shirt and $31 for the 10K; staff said registration is open through the morning of the race.
No formal commission action was required; commissioners thanked staff for outreach and publicity work and asked logistical questions about registration and promotional outreach.
