General Service Building finished early; Justice Center entitlements and modulars advance
Summary
County project managers reported the General Service Building is entering final inspections and will move staff in this week, with owner contingency remaining about $22,000. The county's Justice Center entitlement process progressed through planning and design review; modular buildings are being demobilized and will be placed on the future site.
Project managers updated the Teton County Board of Commissioners on July 7 that the county's General Service Building (GSB) is approaching completion and that the Justice Center project has made progress in entitlement and design review.
Jason Birning of Birning Project Management said the GSB is in punch-list and final inspection stages: "we're tracking to have about $22,000 remaining in owner contingency for the county, and there's 10,000 remaining in, ACM's construction contingency." He told the board staff anticipate moving county personnel into the building at the end of the week and finishing final billing in July; he said the project was running roughly a month ahead of schedule.
On the Justice Center, Birning and architect/contracting partners reported the project cleared design review committee with comments on massing, scale and the character of the building rear elevations. The team reduced some height and added articulation on the back elevations to respond to concerns, and planning and zoning later granted unanimous approval. Birning said a planning and zoning approval hearing is scheduled before the town council on July 21.
Tom Behrens, representing Weinberg and working with the design team, said design development drawings will be completed for contractor estimating by around Sept. 1, with the contractor given several weeks to prepare cost estimates. He said modular buildings to house staff during courthouse demolition are being demobilized and moved to the site; "they're scheduled to move those next Tuesday over to the site," he said. Behrens added the county received permission to store the modulars on-site while building permits are obtained.
Project managers said they will circulate the monthly written report (which was missed in the meeting packet) and provide further schedule and budget details in the next update.
