Residents thank commissioners for school budget, urge flood information prominence on Harnett County site

Two residents praised the recently passed school budget and urged the county to make flood-prediction information more prominent on its website as regional river levels rise.
Rebecca Brock, resident, thanked the board for approving the school budget on June 16 and said the increase gives the superintendent flexibility to be competitive with teacher supplements and helps students. Brock said she recognizes the financial risk the board assumed to pass the budget and asked whether Harnett County has a river disaster or flood plan and suggested placing flood-prediction information prominently on the county website for the next 30–60 days because the river is top of mind.
Larry Mitchell, resident and U.S. veteran, also praised county leadership for delivering a timely budget and thanked staff, the county manager and department heads. Mitchell spoke about budgeting principles from his personal experience and urged citizens to be mindful of family finances.
After public comment, Commissioner Trout and staff reiterated that Harnett Regional Water and emergency management are monitoring predicted river cresting; they said plant monitoring is ongoing and staff do not currently expect operations to be affected but will continue to watch evolving conditions.
The public comment period allowed two speakers five minutes each, and the board did not take formal action on the public requests during the meeting.
