Public works asked the board to advertise to fill a vacated full-time facilities and grounds technician position in the parks department and the board approved the request.
John Ellerman, public works, said the position is already budgeted and asked permission to advertise for the opening after a recent hire took another job. "I have a request to fill a facility and grounds tech for the parks department," Ellerman said. A motion to advertise for the facilities and grounds technician position was moved, seconded and approved.
Ellerman also sought the board's input on possible remodel options for the commission chambers so he can relay direction to the architect. Commissioners discussed options including paint and carpet upgrades for a minimal approach and more extensive reconfiguration that would affect seating, audio-visual placement and technology. One commissioner asked for work to be phased to minimize displacement; another expressed a preference against a long, disruptive project.
Staff said advice from the architect and input from Bruce McMillan and BHS would help generate options and timelines. Commissioners directed Ellerman to talk with the architect and return with a set of options and estimated timelines before authorizing major work.
