Sheriff reports higher-than-projected receipts, hires deputy; vehicle purchase discussed

Sheriff Henry presented the quarterly and annual financial report to Carroll County supervisors, reporting that for the last quarter of fiscal year 2024–25 the office took in $171,348.57; after payments to the state, receipts for the quarter totaled $169,511.89, with about $155,000 identified as room (jail) revenue. For the entire fiscal year, reported receipts totaled $625,414.49.
Henry said those figures were above earlier projections. He also announced the department hired Joseph Tanovec as a deputy; Henry said Tanovec is certified and has prior experience working in Carroll and Manning communities and that he was able to “hit the ground running.”
Board members asked about a vehicle listed in the payables. Henry said the county had issued a check for an outfitted vehicle but that the vendor was still completing outfitting; he expected the vendor to deliver later in the year. County staff confirmed the $147,612.21 payables list included approximately $73,185 tied to the sheriff’s vehicle.
No vote was required to accept the sheriff’s informational report; the board later approved the quarterly and annual sheriff’s report by motion as part of routine business.
