Weston County Extension reports busy summer programing; commissioners approve annual compensation agreement with UW

Weston County Extension staff delivered a detailed activity report to the Weston County Board of Commissioners and the board approved an annual compensation agreement with the University of Wyoming that continues the county’s cost-sharing for extension services.
Extension staff (identified in the meeting as Sarah and colleagues) told commissioners about recent outreach and program work: an Extension director presentation at the Western Extension Directors Association in Laramie; plans for an August 7 caregiver conference in partnership with Weston County Health Services (six workshops planned); robust 4-H programming including livestock tagging (40 pigs, nine goats and 14 lambs), a dog clinic that included demonstrations with law-enforcement K-9s, robotics and shooting-sports competitions, sewing workshops and an upcoming county fair with strong participation. The extension reported hiring or retaining an intern, JJ Lipp, who is working 450 hours funded by extension funds after AmeriCorps funding was withdrawn.
Commissioners also approved the chairman’s signature on the annual compensation agreement between the University of Wyoming and Weston County; the agreement covers shared funding for the county’s extension position(s) through the contract period (the document as presented includes a June 30 termination clause discussed at the meeting and staff agreed to mark administrative language to reflect the intended contract term through the next fiscal year).
Extension leadership said renovations at the county camp kitchen and other facilities helped deliver a successful 4-H camp and other events. Staff noted that several youth achieved notable results at state competitions and that programming has been well attended. Commissioners thanked staff and asked for continued updates on upcoming events and any budget implications the extension may require during the county budgeting process.
The board approved the UW-Western County compensation agreement by majority vote. Commissioners requested a minor clarification to the contract language around termination dates to make the period explicit; staff planned a notation or sticky note to reflect the board’s intent that the agreement run through the coming contract year.
