4‑H moves many exhibits into Wingspan; fair opens in 16 days with new clubhouse and over 2,000 entries

Washington County Fair staff told the Fair Board on July 2 that more than 2,000 entries have been received for the upcoming 10‑day fair and that 249 youth have submitted 4‑H entries. Staff outlined a new plan to concentrate many 4‑H exhibits and activities in Wingspan and to use the Cloverleaf Building as a climate‑controlled clubhouse for 4‑H and FFA youth during the fair.
Kristen (presenting the 4‑H update) said Wingspan will host educational presentations, displays and scheduled make‑and‑take activities every day of the fair. Events planned include a dog show (to be held indoors), a honeybee exhibit from the Washington County beekeepers (club deciding display format), a fashion review, food contests, robotics and hearth (home economics) exhibits, and scheduled youth activities such as button sewing demonstrations and other family‑friendly programs. Staff said the dog demo area will use new mats acquired from a recent closure of an external provider.
The presenter described the Cloverleaf Building as the 4‑H 'clubhouse' for morning breakfasts (7–9 a.m.), awards and as a supervised air‑conditioned space for youth, and said pancake batter will be provided by a sponsor (Elmer’s). Staff said the fair will run scheduled times for make‑and‑take activities to give visiting families a chance to participate.
Staff also described a pilot plan to set up a demonstration kitchen in Wingspan (pending a donated stove from a local appliance company), and said the fallback plan is to use the building kitchen behind Wingspan if a donated appliance is not available.
Ending: The board heard the 4‑H operational plans and outreach tools (walkie‑talkies, Band app, volunteer scheduling); staff asked board members to circulate information about ticketed events and to encourage attendance.
