Kootenai County approves temporary full-time HR hire for up to 12 weeks

The Kootenai County Board of County Commissioners on July 3 approved a temporary full-time hire in the county Human Resources department for up to 12 weeks.
A county Human Resources staff member told the board the department will be down two people starting next week and that, because the department is small, it would operate at roughly two-thirds staffing without temporary help. The staff member said a former county employee with extensive HR and county knowledge could return to work with little or no training and help for the temporary period.
Commissioners expressed support for the request. Commissioner Eberlein said she had no problem with the hire, and Commissioner Duncan and Chair Metairie joined in a unanimous vote to approve the 12-week temporary appointment. Commissioner Duncan moved to approve the temporary staffing request; the motion was seconded by another commissioner and carried with all members voting "aye." The board recorded the motion and approved the request.
The temporary appointment is intended to maintain HR operations while two employees are out; the staff member and commissioners did not provide a dollar figure for the temporary hire during the meeting.
