CCSD board approves $33,877.38 membership with Nevada Association of School Boards

The Clark County School District Board of Trustees voted 5-0 July 2 to approve the districtannual membership renewal with the Nevada Association of School Boards for an amount not to exceed $33,877.38.
Board liaison Joe Caruso told trustees the cost will be paid from the Board Office budget, using the dues-and-fees and other-professional-services line items. Caruso said District regulation 33.12 allows the Board Office to submit an invoice for payment when items fall under $50,000.
Trustee Esparza Stofgren moved to adopt the item; Trustee Johnson seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
The Board and trustees who serve on NASB described the group as a source of governance training and statewide advocacy. Trustee Brenda Zamora, the boardvice president and a NASB representative, said NASB provides monthly one-day trainings, mentorship and a certified public official program that helps trustees fulfill Nevada training requirements. Trustee Cavazos and others described the groupas a place to discuss legislative priorities and district recognition at the state level.
Caruso provided historical context: the district paid $32,264.17 in 2024; the 2025 invoice is higher by $1,613.21, a roughly 5% increase. He said NASBBoard of Directors agreed to a 5% dues increase for FY2026 after considering a larger proposed increase.
Why it matters: trustees said NASB trainings help new and continuing board members ask informed questions of district staff and align on statewide policy priorities. The renewal keeps CCSD eligible for member discounts on conferences and trainings and continues the districtrelationship with the state association.
The board took the vote during a work session; the item was presented and approved without amendment.
