Residents press council on speeding in Stonehaven and sidewalks blocked by park trash cans

Two members of the public used the July 2 public-comment period to urge the Middleton City Council to address traffic and public-right-of-way issues.
Guy Hollins, secretary of the Stonehaven Homeowners Association, told the council that residents have reported persistent speeding within the Stonehaven neighborhood and on Ninth Avenue adjacent to the development. Hollins asked the city to repair and deploy a radar speed trailer he said is stored in the city maintenance yard and to consider physical traffic calming such as speed bumps.
"Ninth is a great speedway there... so I wonder whether or not the city might consider putting speed bumps in there or something at least to curb some of that speeding before somebody gets hurt," Hollins said, describing multiple entrances to the subdivision and ongoing construction that he said increases risk.
Separately, Joellen Ringer spoke about trash cans placed on sidewalks near the Greater Parks and Rec area that, she said, are left for several days and impede ADA access for strollers and wheelchairs. Ringer recited a city code provision she had discussed with code enforcement and asked the council to ensure the code is enforced.
Council members acknowledged both concerns and asked staff to raise the issues with relevant departments; the council did not adopt any immediate ordinance or regulation changes during the meeting.
