On July 1 Nye County staff recommended moving forward with PIROMP Med Management LLC and negotiating a not-to-exceed contract amount of $1,440,000 to provide required medical services for the jail. During a public discussion, hospital-affiliated and private providers participating in the procurement described their local staffing credentials and experience providing care in rural Nevada; the county and sheriff’s office discussed operational needs, including 24/7 phone coverage and on-site medical assistance.
Sheriff Joe McGill told the board that, regardless of provider selection, his department will cooperate with the vendor and facilitate operations. County legal staff clarified that the board was selecting a preferred proposal and would direct staff to finalize a negotiated contract to return for execution. The board voted to authorize negotiations and allow the county manager to execute the negotiated agreement; the action passed with a recorded unanimous vote.
What the contract covers: County staff outlined the scope as baseline correctional medical coverage including intake assessment, on-site nursing during set hours, medical assistance coverage overnight (with remote RN/MD availability), and weekly physician rounds, plus mental-health services as specified in the RFP. The county will finalize the legal terms and insurance requirements in contract negotiations before full execution.
