Grand Prairie utility staff said the city launched a new customer portal in June that lets customers view bills, consumption history and payment records, and they reiterated that the city is in Stage 1 of its drought contingency plan with specific twice‑weekly watering rules.
The portal, paywaterbill.gptx.org, went live in June and already has more than 11,000 registrants, Gladys Ortiz, Utility Customer Service Manager for the City of Grand Prairie, said on the city’s July program. "We launched a new utility customer service portal, and customers now have the ability to have one stop shop where they can go and look at their water bill, their consumption, previous statements, their payment history by logging into one place," said Tanya Woody, a utility staff member who discussed registration steps and support.
City water matters for households and businesses because Grand Prairie buys water from several regional suppliers, Ortiz said. "We contract with the city of Dallas, Fort Worth, Midlothian, and Mansfield. We buy specific amount of water from each of them, and we then provide to our customers," she said. Ortiz described the local storage towers and occasional well use for emergencies and said those relationships and infrastructure make conservation important.
Officials said the city is in Stage 1 of its drought contingency plan, which allows twice‑weekly watering but bans irrigation during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ortiz outlined the city’s even/odd schedule: even‑numbered addresses may water on Mondays and Thursdays; odd‑numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays and Fridays. "Never use the irrigation system on Wednesday, Saturdays, and Sundays," Ortiz said. Hand watering with a hose or soaker hose is allowed at any time, she added.
On registration, Woody explained the process: customers should go to paywaterbill.gptx.org, use their prior 12‑digit account number to find their new account number and then register with the new seven‑digit account number and the prior statement amount. "You take your 12 digit account number from the old system and use it in the service that says find my account number to create or to determine what your new account number is," Woody said. Customers who do not have or do not read their previous bill can call the utility customer care line at (972) 237‑8200 for help; staff can register customers by phone or in person.
Utility staff said in‑person support is available at City Hall Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the front counter and drive‑through. The city will also hold extra registration sessions at the main library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and staff will have representatives on the mobile library unit when it is out in the community. Ortiz said Grand Prairie bills "just short of 52,000 water customers" monthly and that bills are issued on many days of the month; amounts are due 21 days after a bill is issued.
Officials encouraged residents to register early and to watch for the first billing statements under the new system. "If you need assistance doing so, please feel free to give us a call. We're happy to help," Woody said.
