Cupertino manager announces fence material, signage and voluntary equipment request after heated public comments on pickleball noise

City officials said July 1 they will install sound-attenuating material on the fence at Cupertino Memorial Park and post signage urging (but not requiring) players to observe quiet hours and consider quieter paddles and balls, after more than a dozen residents and pickleball players addressed the council during oral communications.

The move followed repeated public appeals from members of the local pickleball community who called the managerplan proposed in a mayoral email impractical and unfair. Bianca Guerrero, speaking for a group of players, said the cityshould work with players to find a long-term solution rather than impose equipment requirements or strict curfews. "A sound wall will serve the dual purpose of mitigating noise while allowing continued access to a healthy, inclusive recreational activity enjoyed by citizens of all ages," Guerrero said.
