Tim Thompson, a resident at 15 West Old Street, told the Petersburg City Council July 1 that nightly loud music and open-air venue activity near residences has caused sleep deprivation and medical problems for him and his family.
“It’s unlawful for any person to use, operate, or play any musical instrument or device so that it's heard between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. inside the confines of a residential dwelling,” Thompson said, citing the city’s noise provisions as he described repeated late-night music from a nearby establishment identified in public comment as Andrade's.
Thompson said he has called police and code enforcement with little effect and described nights when the open-air operations lasted multiple hours. Council members acknowledged the complaint and discussed enforcing existing noise and occupancy rules, including regulations connected to ABC licensing for establishments that serve alcohol.
Vice Mayor Hill and Councilman Jones said the city will continue to pursue enforcement and coordinate with police and code enforcement; no new ordinance was proposed or adopted at the July 1 meeting. Thompson and other residents asked the council to ensure the city enforces existing restrictions so residents can sleep and protect health.
