Grand Prairie Library to kick off 'Color Our World' summer reading May 31 at Main Library

The Grand Prairie Library will hold its summer reading kickoff on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Main Library, 901 Conover Drive, library staff said. The 2025 theme is "Color Our World," and organizers said the program is intended to encourage creativity and maintain literacy over the summer.
"This summer our theme is Color Our World...to explore your own creativity," said Peter Syme, representing the Grand Prairie Library. He described the kickoff as the first day to sign up and said the library will offer traditional paper reading logs as well as the Beanstack app for digital logging.
The library will present large weekly Friday programs that rotate among the three branches—Main, Shotwell and Warmack—featuring themes such as The Art of Science, The Art of Music and The Art of Bubbles, staff said. The library also runs mobile library stops across the city's six districts once a week; the mobile vehicles offer book pickup, holds, Wi‑Fi (extending roughly 20 feet), printers and air conditioning.
Programs and age eligibility: staff said the summer reading club is open to children, teens and adults as a family activity; participants who return logs are eligible for prizes and grand-prize drawings. A printed program guide and calendar will be posted on gptx.org/library in the weeks before the kickoff.
Library staff noted construction at the Main Library may still be ongoing at kickoff; they said the library is prepared to adapt programming if construction continues. All library programs and book checkouts are free, staff said.
