Commission adopts minimum-maintenance resolutions for Ottawa and Niles roads; public hearing scheduled Aug. 26

The Saline County Commission on July 1 adopted two resolutions declaring portions of Ottawa Road (northwest county) and Niles Road (southwest county) as minimum-maintenance, controlled-access facilities.
Road and Bridge Administrator Darren Fischel presented both requests and told the board adoption of each resolution would place the items on the planning board agenda for a public hearing on Aug. 26 and that final passage of the resolutions would be scheduled for the Sept. 9 commission meeting. After final passage and within 10 days, staff said, minimum-maintenance signs would be posted and property owners would be permitted to install gates subject to inspection.
The commission adopted resolution 25-2430 for Ottawa Road and resolution 25-2429 for Niles Road by voice votes during the meeting. Staff said publication fees for each action were $66.
During the Niles Road discussion a commissioner asked whether the staff description should read "southeast" rather than "southwest"; staff confirmed the correct location. A member of the public complimented a pre-meeting flyover video used to illustrate road conditions.
Ending: Both matters proceed to the planning board for an Aug. 26 public hearing; final action is scheduled at the Sept. 9 commission meeting if the planning board issues a recommendation.
