Sheriff reports active shooter training, search-warrant operations and fire-season readiness

Sheriff Tim Saxon updated the Board on several public-safety matters at the July 1 meeting, including training and enforcement activity and preparations for fire season.
Saxon described attendance at a national FBI partners conference and summarized a two-day active-shooter training event held locally in cooperation with Trinity County Office of Education and multiple state and federal partners. He thanked local partners and credited Sergeant Nate Trujillo with organizing the exercise.
On enforcement, Saxon summarized a multi-agency operation with state and federal partners serving 45 search warrants in Southern Trinity. He reported law-enforcement outcomes including eradication of 23,498 marijuana plants, seizure of 2,034 pounds of processed marijuana, seizure of 16 illegal firearms, seizure of over 30 containers of banned pesticides and issuance of more than 50 environmental violations relating to streambed alteration and water diversion. He said five people were detained and one person booked into the county jail.
On wildfire readiness, Saxon said the county’s fire modules had passed readiness reviews, were staffed and available for assignments. He reported about 15,000 acres of NEPA-cleared fuels work this fiscal year and described additional engines and contract resources staged across northern and southern Trinity County during red-flag weather. He reiterated that county emergency-notification systems — Ready Trinity and related zones in Genesis — are live and urged residents to register and to know their evacuation zones.
Saxon reminded the public that personal fireworks are banned in Trinity County and described efforts to improve public information capacity through social media and the county public-information officer.
The sheriff also announced that all allocated jail positions are filled or in onboarding, credited department recruitment work and noted the recent resignation of a county code-enforcement employee who will present later in the agenda.
