The discussion matters because MINUSMA’s operational environment forced Sweden to adapt doctrine and training: the contingent arrived in a remote, infrastructure‑poor area and elected to be self‑sustaining while establishing a functional camp and surveillance capabilities.
Planning and logistics. Both officers said logistics and transport were the dominant planning challenges. “The logistical challenge was that the means of transportation and the infrastructure was very limited,” Nielsen said, adding that Sweden “had to be self sustainment for the first 2 months as well as build our own camp.
