Davis County comptroller Curtis Koch to leave; party convention will recommend interim replacement

Loreen Kamalu, chair of the Davis County Commission, announced that elected Davis County Comptroller Curtis Koch submitted his resignation effective July 15, 2025.

The announcement explained why the vacancy triggers a party-led replacement process under Utah law. Kamalu said the Davis County Republican Party was notified on June 19, 2025, and that party delegates will hold a special convention at 7 p.m. July 15 at Layton Christian Academy to consider applicants who filed to complete Koch’s term. "When they have someone to recommend to the Board of Commissioners that will happen afterward," Kamalu said.

The commission described the interim steps: Chief deputy Lee Doug Stone will assume the comptroller’s responsibilities until the legislative body of Davis County appoints an interim replacement, consistent with state law. Kamalu said the appointment would complete the remainder of Koch’s current term and noted that the office is on the regular election cycle in 2026.
