Commissioner Muldrow swore in four new officers of the York City Police Department during a ceremony in which he described police work as "the toughest, most challenging, most difficult thing" recruits will face.
The recruits — Jacob Vega, Dylan Hall, Michael Cruz and Charles (Chuck) Dashnaw — were introduced by Captain Dan Lentz, who noted the hiring began with 49 applicants and that the screening process, including polygraph, written, physical, psychological and medical exams, produced the four new hires. "We had 49 people sign up... here we are at 4," Lentz said.
The ceremony included brief biographical introductions for each recruit. Jacob Vega, described as born and raised in York, attended Central York High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Millersville in 2025; he is a first-generation college graduate. Dylan Hall, from Lititz, listed hiking, camping and martial arts among his interests. Michael Cruz, originally from Puerto Rico, studied at HACC and Messiah College and was introduced as recently married with a daughter named Rose Noelle. Charles Dashnaw, a Dover native, earned an associate degree in criminal justice from HACC.
At the center of the event the recruits recited the oath of office, including a pledge to "support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth" and to "uphold and enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the ordinances of the city of York." After the oath the commissioner welcomed the new officers to the York City Police Department and the group took photographs with family members.
Captain Lentz asked the recruits to listen closely to the oath, saying at its core officers "are taking an oath to serve this community." Commissioner Muldrow, who identified himself as both commissioner and the acting mayor for the month during his remarks, emphasized the personal challenges and rewards of police work: "They will look back on it at times, and they are going to cringe... You're gonna have sleepless nights," he said, but added from his 25 years of experience that "you are not gonna regret it 1 single bit."
The transcript records the ceremony and biographical introductions and shows family members attended for several recruits. The transcript did not specify the officers' official start dates or any subsequent administrative steps beyond signing ceremony documents and photographs.
