Little Rock School District board names gym at Dr. Marion G. Lacy K-8 for Coach Marcus Davis

The Little Rock School District Board of Education on June 26 approved a resolution renaming the gymnasium at Dr. Marion G. Lacy K-8 Academy in honor of Coach Marcus Davis.
Director Hatter moved the resolution and Director Calloway seconded it. The motion passed by voice vote.
The resolution recounts Coach Davis's 36 years of service to LRSD, including 33 years at Cloverdale Middle School, and describes his record coaching multiple sports and mentoring students. It notes that Cloverdale's gym was previously named for Davis in March 2022 and that, with the district consolidation and opening of Dr. Marion G. Lacy K-8 Academy, the board considered it fitting to continue the recognition at the new campus.
Coach Marcus Davis addressed the board, saying he is "so grateful" to be honored and thanked board members and district staff who kept him informed about the process. Board members discussed plans for a plaque and a follow-up ceremony so staff, former students and community members can attend.
The resolution was presented by a school-affiliated speaker and moved and seconded by board directors. The board voted "aye" with no recorded opposition.
