Hillside superintendent outlines McKinney‑Vento application, scholarship timing and final‑exam exemptions

So this is our collaboration, and this is the application that we're required to submit to New Jersey Department of Education. It's statutory," Superintendent Glover said.
During the discussion of education items, a board member asked whether the Hillside Scholarship Foundation awards are given at graduation or could be moved to senior awards night. Superintendent Glover said the foundation allowed more time for applications this year, which contributed to the timing, and that the district would communicate with the foundation about potentially changing the award timing in future years.
On final‑exam exemptions, Superintendent Glover said the exemptions affected about 10 students across multiple grade levels rather than only seniors. "The students that were eligible, it was primarily, I'm talking about 10 students across the grade levels. It wasn't just the seniors," Glover said.
Glover also reported that the district livestreamed the high school graduation and that the district had received data showing "over 1,600 families tuned in to watch it," which he said demonstrates livestreaming as a way to reach families who cannot attend in person.
The board did not alter policy during the meeting; Glover said the district will revisit grading and exam policies as a committee process continues and tighter guidelines may follow.
The McKinney‑Vento application and the education agenda items were approved as part of a bundled education motion. The district will submit the required application to the New Jersey Department of Education and follow up with the Hillside Scholarship Foundation about award timing and with the grading/exam committee about possible policy changes.
