Board hears update on DCHS athletic complex; project about $20,000 over original estimate, special session scheduled

The Dickson County Board of Education received an update on the Dixon County High School athletic complex and was told final construction numbers will be available at a special meeting in July.
Mister Corleau, who presented the maintenance update, said the district held a pre-construction meeting and that construction on the high school field will begin in the next few weeks. "We had our first pre con meeting on the high wall at Dixon High School...we're, like, $20,000 over budget, our original estimate," he said, adding that some bleacher-repair items lacked final pricing.
Corleau said the scope includes field turf, a new track, tennis-court pricing and soccer-field work. He said vendor pricing includes two grooming machines for routine field maintenance and that some track infield and runway work is in the current estimates. Board members asked that soccer goals and track equipment be included in the final bid package or funded from the district's athletic fund if needed.
Board members discussed adding lacrosse lines and other future-use lines while installing the new turf. One board member said several neighboring districts already include lacrosse lines and recommended adding them now because it is cheaper than retrofitting the field later; another noted removable paint is an option but may be short-lived. Corleau and board members asked that athletic directors and coaches be added to the drawing and selection process.
The district reported a five-year warranty on the turf with potential renewal options if district maintenance requirements are met. The board directed staff to present final numbers at a special session tied to a July 8 meeting so members could review the full bid package, including bleacher repairs and equipment costs, before taking action.
No formal construction contract was awarded at the meeting; the board scheduled further review.
