Council removes Chestnut Square quad from rentable amenities amid parking concerns

The Town Council unanimously approved a staff recommendation to remove the Chestnut Square Park quad from the town’s rental fee schedule.
Parks staff told the council the quad has seen limited rental use since the town began tracking reservations in 2017: about 16 rentals totaling 90 hours over the record period, compared with higher demand for turf fields and other facilities. Staff said increasing daytime foot traffic, loss of nearby on‑street parking and rising use of nearby facilities make issuing private permits for the quad operationally difficult.
Hayden, parks director, said the quad will remain available for town-run programs, summer camps, town events such as Winterfest and Touch‑a‑Truck, and other staff-run activities. The quad will not be removed or repurposed immediately; staff said the item can be revisited if the park master plan or future community center plans alter space needs.
Council approved the change without objection and asked staff to publish the fee-schedule update and inform permit applicants of the change.
